One housing officer, who called me the 'plinth lady' because I had been resourceful creating storage under my bookcases etc, actually said "a few shelves won't make a difference" Well the pictures of my bathroom already prove that to be wrong; so will my kitchen 'makeover'!!
Another 'pearl of wisdom' was I couldn't create outside storage from recycled materials*... and in respect of other intended projects: "that's not going to happen"!! Instead of encouragement :( the exercising of 'power' over a mere tenant whilst showing outright prejudice!
* Surely recycling and resourcefulness should be encouraged for the benefit of the planet!!
Most of my fencing/windbreak came from freecycle. The boards for my raised bed from a skip - with a kind local resident's blessing. The superfluous unused 'soil-pipe' from the same skip became the supports for my diascia display!
Nifty shelf in hallway, no more lost keys!
Below: motivation for finding replacement doors on freecycle!! Old 'sticky' handle and everything clogged up with layers and layers of paint :(
Bathroom transformation recycling items already owned!
Including a 'kitchen-roll holder/spice-rack' now an 'easy-to-replenish' toilet-roll holder! Refelected in mirror in last photo! Old bookshelves as storage etc
Mirror to add a feeling of space thanks to 'Freecycle' :)
Old shower curtain cut in two as curtain for window!
'Under-curtain' for extra privacy: supposed to be a 'beach-wrap' but harmonises well with the actual shower curtain!
When interviewed re gaining some support, a while back, it was a building site and I was asked where I was able to shower! It's a shame people have no vision and are so quick to judge! Well alas the shower was removed by the council when they installed the bath during the 'refurbishment'! - I shall have one eventually.
At least for now I have a colourful friendly bathroom with storage!
